About Us
Dr. Tyler Callison, L.Ac., DACM
Acupuncturist
Dr. Tyler Callison is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine with a passion for helping people overcome pain and regain the ability to live active, fulfilling lives. His clinical focus is orthopedic medicine, specializing in musculoskeletal injuries, chronic degenerative conditions, joint disorders, autoimmune conditions, and sports-related injuries that affect movement, function, and quality of life. By integrating the diagnostic principles of Classical Chinese Medicine with modern orthopedic assessment and rehabilitation, he seeks to understand not only where pain exists, but why the body is struggling to recover—allowing him to identify the underlying factors contributing to dysfunction and develop individualized treatment plans that promote lasting healing. He earned his Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science, where he developed the integrative approach that defines his practice today.
As an avid surfer and lifelong athlete, Dr. Callison understands firsthand the physical demands that sports and an active lifestyle place on the body. He especially enjoys helping athletes of all ages recover from injury, optimize performance, and return confidently to the activities they love. Whether working with competitive athletes, weekend warriors, or individuals simply hoping to move without pain, his goal is always the same: restoring function so patients can live life fully.
With family roots in medicine—both of his parents practice acupuncture—Dr. Callison has always been a healer at heart. He believes exceptional healthcare begins by listening carefully, treating every patient as an individual, and recognizing that no two cases are exactly alike. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all treatment plan, he takes the time to understand each patient’s unique history, lifestyle, movement patterns, and overall health to create a personalized plan of care.
As a co-founder of Callison Integrative Health, Dr. Callison is committed to the clinic’s mission of providing thoughtful, individualized care. Every patient encounter is an opportunity for learning, healing, and uncovering the true source of disease or dysfunction. He believes every patient deserves to be treated as a unique individual rather than through a one-size-fits-all approach. Even when answers are not immediately apparent, he is dedicated to working diligently to identify the factors contributing to illness or pain and develop a treatment plan tailored to each patient’s needs.
By combining the wisdom of Classical Chinese Medicine with modern orthopedic assessment, acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, medical massage, corrective exercise, and movement rehabilitation, Dr. Callison bridges traditional medicine with contemporary movement science. His ultimate goal is not simply to relieve pain, but to restore function, build resilience, and help patients return to the activities that bring meaning, purpose, and enjoyment to their lives.

FAQ
How does acupuncture work?
Current research has shown that there are many mechanisms of action involved with the therapeutics of acupuncture. The needles vary in size and texture and can be used for different purposes based on the location of insertion and technique used after insertion. One of the key things happening when we use acupuncture to reduce pain is the release of endogenous endorphins (self-generated pain killers) which helps reduce the body’s perception of pain. I am primarily using acupuncture as a tool to que your body to drastically reduce inflammation by increasing its ability to cool the inflammatory fire take wreaks havoc on all your bodies’ systems. In degenerative conditions, the body’s own tissue is breaking down at a rate that is much faster than usual. I have found a way to slow this cycle and reduce many of the debilitating symptoms you’re experiencing.
Why should I get acupuncture for my operation?
There are many reasons to get acupuncture. When talking about peri surgical acupuncture, presurgical acupuncture can calm the nervous system which has been proven to improve results of post surgical recovery. Post-surgically, we can promote blood flow and aid tissue repair.
How much more quickly can I recover with acupuncture vs. without?
Clinically, I have seen patients with certain injuries repair in a fraction of the time as opposed to when acupuncture is not utilized. The research is unclear how much more quickly acupuncture will allow you to recover and likely varies from case to case, however it is clear that acupuncture can greatly improve quality of recovery and drastically reduce pain and the need for opioid analgesics.
What kind of degenerative conditions does Dr. Callison treat?
I specialize in degenerative conditions because I found a system that works at helping the body slow degeneration and reduce inflammation. With acupuncture combined with lifestyle and dietary modifications, patients with a wide variety of conditions from arthritis to sciatica to macular degeneration to multiple sclerosis and more find relief. It is my goal to get patients to an optimal state over a period of 3 months to 1 year for their condition. I work closely with them and relay where I think they can be in the next year when treatment is followed through with.
